So this is our story, and it doesn't end well. It's kind of funny, but not funny at all because 2 ducklings died in the process, and 3 ducklings left home forever. So, it starts a few weeks ago, I find a brown egg in the yard, I moved it to a broody hen. 9 days later it started to crack. I did some research and realized that ducks take 28 days to hatch.

I figure I'm an asshole for ruining a duck Mom's chance at raising her own babies. Despite the fact that I SWEAR I didn't see that nest. However, I rescue those babies; they died. I decided, I'll incubate them all and reunite them with their mother. I ended up finding 11 more, 5 of them were dead on arrival, 5 hatched, 1 is still cooking.

Well, the ones that died were 3 days ahead of the incubated ducklings, they were huge, I tried a couple of times to introduce them to the incubated ones, but the big ones would drown the little ones in water, and feed on their food. I separate them back out.

After a couple weeks, the big ducklings are simply too much to handle without a pond or a pool. They need to go. I ask the local farmers, they say they'll take them, they have some ponds. Well, they tell me that they have over 30 ducks, I say good, they must have a mom. Well, that's not what I get.

I drop them off, they say it's fine, they will raise them, I say thank you, good luck. Later, my friend texts me and says that he saw them dropped off at the farmer's house. He says it didn't go well, that they were being chased away by every other duck. That they're hiding in a corner, and only the female duck was being nice.

I'm gutted. I text the farmer, he says it's fine, that he didn't expect anything different. He says they are just going to be harassed until they find a new home. I say, "I guess they aren't going to find a home then." He says "yeah, they're pretty feral"

I refused to give up, I get the farmer's address and I go pick up my ducklings, and I bring them home. I raise them up with the other ducklings, they harass them, I can't help but laugh, and then it hits me, this is exactly what I did to them. I took them out of their home, and I brought them to a new home and let them get harassed, and left them. The same thing that I did to them is being done to them.

I took them back, and I'm raising them, they're good, they're happy, but they still hide in the corner. I went out to feed them tonight and I saw them hiding, and it hit me. I did this to them, I did this to them, I did this to them, I did this to them.

And then it hit me. I saw the broody hen, I'm going to put them under her, and reunite them, maybe they can be a family, maybe they can go back, maybe it's not too late. So, I do it, I put them all together. 4 ducklings and 1 hen. She was not having it, so I'm laying there, in the middle of the night, with a flashlight, a dog, a cat, 2 baby ducks and 1 baby chicken, guiding them to their new forever home, under the hen.

I managed to get 3 of them under her, she is fucking pissed, she is hissing, growling, and pecking, but I got 3 under her, I feed them, she's still mad, she's still hissing, growling, and pecking but she's feeding them.

I sit back, and then I see her, the last duck, waddling on her own, by herself, alone. The other 3 are fed, they're happy, they're warm, they're home. This duck, she's alone, she's cold, she's scared, she's duck, waddling by herself, bleating, alone.

The 3 under the hen look like they're in Disney, it's warm, it's cozy, it's home, but then there's this duck, this duck is the Duck. She's the duck that everybody picks on, she's the duck nobody likes, she's the duck that's always alone.

So I stare at her, trying to get her attention, trying to get her to come under the hen. I'm waiting, waiting, waiting, and she's just looking for food, looking for water, bleating, alone. But I don't give up, I wait for her, I stare at her, I try to get her to come to me, to the hen, to home. Then it happens. She follows my stare, she comes to me, she pecks my hand, she bleats at me, and then she follows my hand to home. She goes under the hen, under home, with the other ducklings.

And I'm crying, I'm crying because I destroyed this duck's family, this duck's life, I ruined her, I did this duck so wrong, but I didn't give up, I waited for her, I kept pushing, I kept trying, and I got her home.

So, now I have 4 ducklings, 1 chicken, and a very angry hen, but it's okay, everybody's happy, everybody's home, the duck's not alone anymore.

So, this is the story of how I had ducklings, killed ducklings, gave away ducklings, took back ducklings, and now I have my ducklings back, ducklings, ducklings, DUCKLINGS!

**UPDATE:**

I get a call, the farmer says he has a pond, a shed, duck food, and a mom. I'm skeptical, but he's willing to come and get them. So, I pack up the ducklings, and their stuff, and he takes them.

**UPDATE TO THE UPDATE:**

I get a call, the farmer says, "You know that mom you gave me? She's not a mom. She's a Dad, and he's a prick"

I ask, "How bad is it?"

He says "She's dead. The dad killed her"

I say "Oh shit, I'm sorry"

He says, "You know that other duck? The one that was alone? She's fucking pissed, she's the meanest piece of shit I've ever seen. She's fucking everybody up" and then he hangs up.

**ANOTHER UPDATE:**

I get a call, the farmer says, "You know that duck? She went into the fucking pond and drowned the fucking dad and his sons! She's running the fucking show!"

**YET ANOTHER UPDATE:**

I get a call, the farmer says, "You know that duck? The pond is empty, there's blood everywhere. I think she killed everybody, I don't know where she is, I don't know if she's okay. Oh, and the fucking dog is dead too."
