They were the original governance of the USA, and it was a looser government with more local governance and state rights. They were replaced by the Constitution, largely due to the advocacy of Alexander Hamilton. He wanted a stronger central government that's more like what we have now.

A lot of people see the need for a greater government in order to address things like climate change and the economy. But I think that ultimately the problem is the government is just corrupt, not that its too weak.

I think if we went back to something like the Articles of Confederation, but with the Bill of Rights, we would have a better situation. There would be more competition between the states, so that if one state did something we didn't like, we could move to another one. If the USA as a whole was doing something we didn't like, we would have an easier time working with our local government to address it.

The stronger the central government, the more corrupt it is going to be. The only reason that corporations and the wealthy elite are able to exert their influence over the government is because it has so much power. If the government had less power and was more local, it would be easier for us to compete with corporate lobbying and have our voices heard.

Furthermore, this would be an excellent way to address the issue of gerrymandering. If everyone can just move to another state if they don't like the local policies, then it doesn't matter whether or not the districts are rigged. And the states with gerrymandered districts would suffer, because they would lose taxpaying citizens who don't like the rigged system.
