What does it take for the government to step in to stop the pillaging of our economy as we've watched ever since Reagan and the Bushes?

Obviously, the Republican party isn't a government for the people. So I want to know where the Democrats stand on this. What does it take?

Since Reagan and the Bushes and their laissez-faire economic agenda (as well as Trump), we have lost all our manufacturing to China (where a corporation can do whatever in wants) and our economy has been hollowed out. Our country is losing its middle class and America no longer has a semblance of a manufacturing based economy. The only things we manufacture (at least I think) are airplanes, cars, and guns. The hollowing out of our economy has been a disaster. The government has allowed this.

The other disaster is where corporations come in and sweep up competition and small businesses and have been allowed (by the government) to pillage our economy. It's the same thing as hollowing out our economy, but this time it's happening internally. Amazon comes to town and suddenly there is no more local businesses. I don't know what's worse, losing our manufacturing base or losing our ability to have local businesses. Local businesses are our identity. They are our culture. As they have disappeared, so has our culture and identity (or what once were).

It seems like there are no longer any rules in place. Corporations can pillage as they want. They can do whatever they want to get rich. They can destroy the environment as they want with no consequences. They can take advantage of workers and pay them as little as they want and treat them as poorly as they want. Our government and economy are designed to ensure corporations are always right and workers (the people) are always wrong. Our economy is designed to ensure the rich get richer. The people in Congress are so corrupt and bought that no one votes against the wishes of corporate America. The political process is nothing more than a formality.

When are we going to see a government run by the people instead of corporations? Democracy has failed. Clearly nothing is ever going to be done. Nothing ever happens. Nothing changes. We just keep watching the pillaging go on. The Democrats are just as bad as the Republicans as far as their corruption goes. At least the Democrats aren't fascist (although many Republicans aren't either). But what does it take before our government actually does something? The people have no power. The people do not run our government. Corporations and special interests run our government. The people are just puppets designed to think we have power.

In other words, what does it take before our government starts working for the people and not for corporations and stops allowing corporations from pillaging our economy?
