What do I do when students will just not listen?

I teach grade 6 and its becoming a chore to deal with these students who do not listen to a word I say. No matter how many times I tell them to not do something they just continue to do it. No matter how many times I ask them to listen they still just don't. <br><br>I've spoke to my administration about it and they gave the usual "make sure you're giving them clear instructions" bull shit and the kids just laugh whenever I ask and them to do something. If I ask them why they're not listening the just shrug and laugh man. <br><br>I have my green slips I keep track of and I give detentions and none of it seems to matter. They just don't care at all. I'm really getting to the point where I just have to smack em' upside the head.
