Mitch McConnell just did Mitch McConnell a huge favor

Mitch McConnell is an incredibly smart guy. He’s been playing politics for decades. He knows Mitch McConnell better than anyone else. That includes all of the things he’s done and the image he’s cultivated. <br><br>Mitch McConnell is a Republican, and if you don’t like him you’re probably a Democrat, or an anti-Trump Republican. You probably wish he’d be gone because you don’t like him. But Mitch McConnell is smart, and Mitch McConnell would like Mitch McConnell to stay in office. <br><br>So, when Mitch McConnell realized that he was in trouble and losing, he decided to make some moves to try and salvage his seat. It’s not about the party, or the people, it’s about him. He needs to stay in office because he’s not done with politics. <br><br>So when he realized that the Democrats were the clear favorites to win the presidency, he knew that he had a problem. If he accepted the results and was conciliatory, he’d alienate his base. But if he went whole hog with the election lies, they’d never trust him again if Biden won. And he needs to be able to work with them, because the Democrats in Kentucky are dead. <br><br>It’s all about him staying in office. So he decided to do something that would help him no matter what. He pumped the brakes on the Trump train. He said that there was a new president, and he seemed to accept it.<br><br>Now, no matter what happens, he can play it cool. If Trump somehow manages to win, he can pretend that he never said anything, or he was just trying to keep everyone calm, or any other nonsense he wants. And if Biden wins, he’s already on board. He can work with Biden, and be a voice of calm, and be a bipartisan guy who just wants to get things done. <br><br>Or he can do what he really wants to do, and block everything that Biden tries to do, and pretend that the other side is being divisive. <br><br>Mitch McConnell is not a patriot. He’s not trying to help the country. He’s trying to keep his job. He’s trying to be re-elected, and he’s trying to keep a good legacy of himself, so that he can write his memoirs and be remembered as a hero. <br><br>I have no idea what will happen in the rest of the election, but I do know that if Mitch McConnell wins, he will have won because he is a better, smarter, more devious politician than anyone on the other side. He will have outsmarted everyone, and he will have done it for himself.
