What flew across the sky at 7:30 pm last night?

Across the US, thousands of people reported seeing an object in the sky at 7:30 pm last night. It was big enough, and moving slowly enough, that you could look at it for a few seconds. We felt like we were looking at a piece of a comet breaking up as it entered the atmosphere. <br><br>So… wtf was it? It looked like it was headed for the Atlantic, so what was it that broke apart over the ocean?
