My stalker appeared by my side and whispered in my ear about how I smelled in the middle of a busy shopping mall

This is a story that I haven't written down before. Most of my friends and family don't even know about it.

I was in high school and my best friend and I were wandering around a local mall on a Saturday afternoon after lunch at the food court. We weren't terribly preoccupied with anything other than finding somewhere to sit because we had really tired feet.
There was an escalator and some stairs in the middle of the mall that connected two floors. It's one of those escalators that has another one right next to it that goes up.

So we were standing at the stairs talking and I mentioned that we should find the bathrooms to wash our faces and then head home by bus. It was about 5 or 6 o'clock by that point.

I got a little worried all of the sudden because I felt like someone was watching me but every time I looked around no one seemed to be staring at me. My friend and I were just standing by the stairs kinda just looking around to see if there were any open benches or anything. It was totally dead in the mall, and all the stores were starting to close.

Then, just as I was about to turn and face my friend, a man appeared out of nowhere and started whispering in my ear. I remember his words perfectly. He was saying "How's that perfume working out for you? It doesn't smell very good." over and over again.

I shuddered so bad as I whipped around to see him. He was an older man with a husband and son, I later found out.

Even though I don't know this man, he was a friendly guy and we saw him around a lot. He lived on the same street that I grew up on and was one of those guys who said hi to everyone. He would always chat with my mom and dad when they mowed their lawn.

When they first started talking all I really heard was "Oh, how's it going? How's your daughter doing?" then they'd talk for a little while longer until my dad went inside. Just a friendly neighbor talking to my parents kind of thing.

For some reason, whenever my dad would go inside from these conversations, this man would stare straight into my room and wave at me. Even if I wasn't at home and he couldn't see me, he would stare up at my window, wave and smile at it.

I told my parents once about how I thought that this man was acting creepy and my mom basically just said "Oh, he's harmless" and my dad said that he was just being nice. I was just really confused about why he was doing it in the first place, because whenever my parents and him were talking, I always felt like he was watching me instead of them.

When I was 15, he started showing up outside of my school at the end of the day and walking towards me. He'd ask if I wanted a ride home or if I could help him carry his grocery bags or something like that. I remember my friends being super confused about how a grown man with a family knew me and was so familiar with me.

I told my parents again about how I thought that this man was acting really creepy, and my parents just said I was being paranoid. They said that he was just being a friendly neighbor. My mom even joked that she was jealous that he liked me more than her, but in hindsight, she was probably just being sarcastic.

I told them I didn't want to be alone, and that I wanted them to pick me up from school, but they said no because I was a teenager and I needed to have some freedom and go out with my friends and stuff.

So I walked home from school by myself.

One of my friends walked with me one day because she was going in the same direction as me. Her mom was waiting for her up the street.

So as we were walking down our street, this man comes into view and sees me. Then he starts power walking towards us. I told my friend to go get her mom and that I'd be fine.

This guy was walking so fast that I could hear him huffing. He got to my house and said "What are you really doing? You said you were going to walk home but you don't like me so you're gonna walk home with your friend instead?"

I got super angry and asked him wtf he was talking about and he got super angry too and started shouting at me that I was a bad liar and I couldn't fool him and that I was just trying to make him angry and hurt his feelings on purpose. He said I couldn't stand to be in his presence because I thought he was disgusting and creepy.

I just stood there frozen and didn't say anything. He just kept insulting me and shouting at me and then he turned his back and started walking away.

I was so angry at my parents for not believing me. I told them about what happened and they basically thought that I was overreacting. They said I was being dramatic and that I couldn't be mad at him for being angry, and that I was the one who hurt his feelings.

So I couldn't rely on my parents, and my friend was still in elementary school so I couldn't go to her mom, so I just had to grin and bear it and hope that it would stop.

He would always come to the bus stop in the morning by my house and purposefully stand next to me and try to touch my hair or my arm or shoulder. I would purposefully stand as close as I could to the other kids at the bus stop and I purposefully put my hair down to cover my face so that he couldn't see me.

Then I remember one time I got home from school and there was a note on my door that said "You're not fooling anyone." with his initials, "G.L." at the bottom.

I don't remember much about the rest of the week, but in the weekend, my best friend and I went to the mall and that's where he appeared out of nowhere and whispered in my ear, and that's the reason why I'm writing this.

That's pretty much it. I never felt safe in my town until I moved away for college. I'm still really paranoid and I have trust issues.

So I guess that's my let's not meet story. Sorry if it was all over the place.
