My dad saved me from a potentially terrible situation

This happened to me when I was 13 and I'm 22 now.

When I was 13 we moved into this new neighborhood with lots of families and young kids. Only problem was my parents both worked a lot, and since this was before "helicopter parenting" was a thing, I was by myself a fair amount. My dad was a total geek and figured out how to watch the cameras at our front door and back door on his phone. He wouldn't have been able to hear any sound, but I think he just wanted to know if anyone was at the door.

One day I was home alone doing my homework. I wasn't really paying attention when my dad called. I remember the conversation being weird and my dad asking if I was okay, and me saying yes. Looking back, I realize that he saw someone at the door and was calling to check in on me without alerting the person at the door. I know this because my dad told me later.

Anyway, the point is, because my dad called, the guy who was at the door didn't think anyone was home (or my dad thought he wasn't sure and was going to come and check things out). The guy looked behind him and then ran off the porch. I didn't see any of this though, because I had no idea someone was even there.

My dad came home from work that day and was really quiet. When he got home he immediately looked at our ring camera footage and saw a man (who had a pack of cigarettes and a lighter in his hand) walking up to the door. And then my dad said he called, and the guy ran off like he didn't want to talk to my dad.

I was pretty much oblivious until my dad showed me the footage. I didn't even know someone was at the door at all, and my dad said it was around the time he called.

I'm really thankful my dad was watching out for me. I don't know what would have happened if the guy got inside. Maybe he wasn't going to do anything and was just being paranoid, but who knows.

I don't think this is the right sub for this, but it creepy as hell that this guy who was probably gonna do something to me was right on my front porch.

Edit: Sorry for no punctuation. I'm on mobile.
