I'm an experienced teacher making a lot of mistakes this year. So far I've had two students threaten to physically harm me. I'm writing this post because the second incident happened because of a mistake I made, and I want to share my experiences with my fellow educators:

A student made a threat to murder me after I accidentally embarrassed them in class. The incident was preventable, and I should have been more careful. It was my mistake for which I am truly sorry.

I'm a teacher in a public school district in the United States. This year, I've made an error that led to a student feeling embarrassed and threatened in class. I accidentally called out a student in front of everyone for something that had absolutely nothing to do with them. The student felt humiliated and targeted, which led to them making a threat against me: "Miss, I'm going to murder you." The threat came directly from the student I had wronged.

I immediately apologized to the student, but I realized that I had failed the student by not considering the potential impact of my actions. I should have been more considerate and thoughtful in my approach. I've taken this as a lesson to be more mindful and empathetic towards my students.

It's sad to see that such incidents are becoming more common. We need to be more aware of the struggles our students face and strive to create a safer and more supportive environment for them.

Has anything similar happened to you? I'm still processing this incident and would love to hear your stories.
