Hey guys,

I’m a 3rd year languages student (18 y/o). In my first year of university, I got a job as a translator in a small firm. It was great, I had clear, steady work and was able to explain languages for everyday people. I was very good at it; my professors gave me notes on my work and would often show it off to the class.

When I was in my second year, they replaced me with ChatGPT. I started getting less and less work, until eventually, I was let go, being told that the firm could save on any potential errors with human translation, and that I wasn’t a good fit for the job and how the company was growing. I was absolutely distraught to be replaced by a stupid AI, and I fell into a pit of depression. I started drinking excessively and would ruin my relationships with my friends by mentioning ChatGPT every chance I got.

I felt so lost. I eventually moved to a big city to get a job in marketing. For the first few months, I hated it, and was horrible at my job. My creative campaigns would all be flagged for plagiarism by ChatGPT, and I would have to redo them. But, I kept at it. I loved making people laugh, and I was starting to get it. I was even finding ways to use OpenAI tools in my job. I used DALL-E to edit my ads, and I even got to make my own GPT-4 voice assistant. I felt so proud.

Then, I got the news that OpenAI were hiring for their marketing team. I knew I had to apply. I’ve got the interview in a week, and I am incredibly nervous. I’ve never been in this position before, and I have no idea if I will get it. I know this is a long shot, but if I get it, I will happily post my new job position on my socials to rub it in the faces of my old firm.

Edit: just had my interview and the interviewer loved the fact that I was replaced with GPT, ha! Most likely to hear back tomorrow morning. Wish me luck!
