Hello everyone. Most of you are probably familiar with the controversy surrounding President Trump's idea to build a wall along the US-Mexico border. Earlier today I posted this on r/TrueOffMyChest and the consensus was that the majority of you disagreed with this. I would like to see why. So, I'll state my arguments for this and I'll see if some of you can change my view.

To begin, I'm generally a right-leaning centrist. I would never call myself a Trump supporter, but I do think that some of his ideas are rational. The wall is one of them. My first argument in favor of the wall is illegal immigration. I don't think it's a huge problem, but I do think that some kind of reform is necessary. Increasing security at the border, to me at least, would be beneficial. I know that a physical barrier won't completely prevent illegal immigration, but I think it would be a step in the right direction. My second argument is the cost. I'm not very good with numbers, but the data I've seen indicates that the cost of a wall would be significantly less than the amount the government currently spends on deterrence at the border. I know that a wall is not a long-term solution, but at least it would make a dent in the budget. My last argument is that it would be beneficial for the environment. I live in Arizona and I've seen how much trash migrants leave at the border. A wall would likely cut down on that and the government would have less of a need to patrol areas that are difficult to access. I know that my arguments are flawed and I am open to changing my view. Thanks for listening!

Edit: I am pro-immigration and pro-legal immigration
