CMV: People Participating in the Global Climate Strike are Selfish and Destroying the Planet More Than they are Protecting it

I just watched the first half of an Acton video called "‘I’ll never take my kids to a mall on Black Friday’: Why a climate scientist boyfriends his local businesses". I will agree that climate change is a real problem. The guy in the video is giving tips about how people can help protect the environment and reduce their carbon footprint, but he's giving those tips while promoting the idea that people should skip work and go protest for an entire day every day of the week.

No matter how much carbon footprint they reduce by changing how they consume products, they can't undo the damage they're doing to the environment by taking an hour or two or three out of work to protest every day.

Not only that, but they're taking people who would otherwise be productive out of the work force and arresting them by the thousands. There's a video going around of a police officer in riot gear throwing a woman to the ground and slamming a nightstick against her head. The video is being promoted as an example of police brutality, but if you actually watch the video all the way through, the police officer was actually trying to get her to move, but she was resisting arrest.

You can't just block traffic and get thousands of people arrested every day and expect the environment to come out better because of it. This movement is doing way more harm than good.

Edit: If you’re an active participant in the climate strike, by all means, share your thoughts, arguments, and evidence. My goal is to change my view if what I believe is wrong. Please be respectful though and don’t attack me personal. Let’s have a rational debate in the comments.
