We've been getting a fair amount of posts that we've deemed communist, but some are less obviously so than others, so I thought I'd clarify.

# Rule 1: Posts that promote the use of violence are allowed.

We say this first to address that violence is absolutely considered a form of promoting communism. We've had a post in the past that was very obviously communist, but the argument was made that violence was being decried in the post, so it didn't break a rule. It is still spam. If you're promoting acts of violence against people you don't agree with, you're acting like a communist. Yes, even if you claim to be supporting peace or an end to violence. If you're saying you won't use violence, but you want others to, then you're attempting to use a proxy to do the dirty work and you're still spam. If you're a member of a group that has a history of violence and you're saying you don't support violence, well that's fine, but your actions require de-escalation, not escalation. Promoting violence is absolutely spam, even if you claim you don't support it if it escalates to that point.

# Rule 2: Posts that promote acts of civil disobedience are spam.

We've seen some posts that don't actively endorse violence, but do actively endorse civil disobedience, like public defacement of property, looting of businesses, dehumanizing your political opponents, or interrupting other's efforts dehumanize their political opponents. These are all acts of civil disobedience that are meant to promote communistic ideals. They are spam.

# Rule 3: Posts that promote the overthrow of the United States government are spam.

As much as we'd like to pretend we aren't, we are a part of the United States of America. We know the current government and its leaders aren't perfect, but they aren't the first that require change, and the only ways to make these changes are by voting, protesting peacefully, or reaching out to your elected representatives. These are the only forms of protest that don't assist communists. If you're saying that the government needs to be overthrown by any means, then you're spamming. If you're saying that peace can only be achieved through revolution, then you're actively working to bring about a revolution.

# Rule 4: Posts that promote actively working against the de-escalation efforts are spam.

A very fine line exists here, but if you're saying you support peace, but you're not willing to actually assist with de-escalation, then you're de-escalation efforts are not in good faith. If you're actively working to stop the de-escalation of a situation, you're spamming.

# Rule 5: Posts with dogwhistles and codewords are spam.

We know that communist chambers have their own lexicon of words that mean things other than what they mean to the average person. If you're using words like " bourgoisie" to describe people in a certain way, you're spamming. If you're talking about "The Revolution", you're spamming. If you say things like "I don't want to live in a communist country, I just want revolution and for capitalism to be overthrown", you're spamming. If you're using communist codewords, you're spamming.

# Rule 6: If you're a member of an obviously communist group and you post here, it's spam.

We've seen some people post here that claim to be against de-escalation, but they're members of groups like the DSA and post in places like r/communism. If you're a member of a group that actively promotes communism and you post here, it's spam. We don't care if you claim peace or an end to violence. If you're a member of a group like that, you're a communist. If you post here, one way or another, you're spamming.

# Rule 7: Self-aware communists who know they cannot promote their ideology without being banned are spam.

It seems that some people are well aware that they would be decried as communists in this sub, but they still want to say things that are communistic without directly saying them. These people know that they are communists. They know that they can't say they're communists. They know that they're not allowed to promote communism in this sub. They know that if they do they'll be banned. They also know that they can't seem to stop themselves, so they'll dehumanize people in the comments. They aren't allowed to do that here. Note that it is impossible to know for certain whether someone is a self-aware communist. If we notice that you're doing these actions, we will warn you. If you continue, we will ban you, because we think you might be a self-aware communist who is trying to skirt the rules. If you get a message from the moderators saying you're ban is because we suspect you're a self-aware communist, we don't want you back.
