I have heard that during their moonwalk following their first landing on the moon, Neil Armstrong and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin saw what they described as a "large number of lifeless, humanoid bodies on the lunar surface".

This is the story as recounted by former senior NASA official, Otto Binder, who worked at the US space agency's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, during the Apollo programme.

Binder was a NASA expert who worked with Wernher von Braun, the head of NASA's Saturn V rocket programme, which included the Apollo 11 mission.

With regard to the whole issue of extraterrestrial life and secret government projects aimed at monitoring it, Binder recounted the following story in an article he wrote on the topic in 1980:

"On July 20, 1969, my wife and I sat glued to the television. Neil Armstrong was the first man to set foot on the moon. But listen to what he said: 'There are great things that you will see in the days to come'."

Binder asked, rhetorically: "What did he mean by that? Did he mean that what Neil Armstrong was seeing was not being seen by the public?"

He then went on to explain that the following is an "accurate" account of what really happened on the Apollo 11 mission.

Apparently, Aldrin radioed back to Mission Control on Earth the following: "What the hell...? There are objects out there. Let us go and - have - have a - have a look."

In response, Armstrong said to Aldrin: "You know that's a - a very incredible...! It's even incredible to go over there and look at this thing!"

Binder explained: "And then, on the moon-walk, just before he climbed back into the lunar module he made the enigmatic statement: 'There are ruins on the moon - a city!'"

According to Binder, Aldrin then confirmed that he had seen a long, thin, cylindrical shape that looked 'artificial', among the ruins.

He quoted Aldrin as saying: "The things out there are certainly not American. It looks... there's a lot of debris out there.

"There are objects out there. They're different from those we put on the moon. What are those objects? Let us go and see."

Binder then added: "Neil, this is Houston. Say again, say again."

According to Binder, Aldrin then said: "They just put 15 - 15 new... (debris) up here. And beside it... well, what looks like it could be a military base..."

Binder explained: "When I read that in the official press release penny-dropped.

"It was what Neil Armstrong had meant when he said that there was a 'ruin' on the moon.

"He meant a long, thin cylindrical artificial-looking shape, a 'base'."

Binder went on to say that Von Braun had confirmed to him personally that the remains of an extraterrestrial city had been found on the moon.

Von Braun said that the Apollo 11 crew had seen the ruins of "an ancient lunar 'civilisation', which in his (Von Braun's) opinion had been 'wiped from the face of the moon' by alien space bombs... possibly a civil war or war using such mass destruction weapons."
