This is a little different as it didn't happen to me directly, but to someone I work with. They asked me to post this story for them, and It's just so weird I want to share it.

So tonight I was working as a bagger at a grocery store. I started at 4 this afternoon and had already worked a good amount of time when a kid (maybe 10-11) and his sister (maybe 7-8) were at the self-scanner. So they finish scanning their stuff and the girl comes over to me and says "do you play Fortnite?" I said yes, I do. Then the kid walks over and asks me "What's your username?" looking back on it, this is when I should have just shut it down. But I saw a kid who liked Fortnite and wanted to make friends. They were also the only people around at that time of night, so I gave him my username and told him I spend most of my time playing with my friends. I looked back at the kid and noticed this really tall, thin man (think the imposter from Among Us) had shifted to be directly behind him.

The kid and his sister then left to go walk the aisles. I figured their dad was there, or something like that, until I went to take out the trash about an hour later. I was talking to one of my managers in the parking lot when the tall thin man from earlier approached us. He asked us what was going on and we explained we were closing up the store. He replied with, "I really hope you aren't closing yet, I still need to shop". I told him we were closing in 15 minutes and to please hurry. He agreed and walked away.

When I came back in the kids from earlier were at the self-checkout again, buying more stuff. I started to get a little suspicious when the tall man approached them and tried to put some stuff on the scanner. Then it just hit me that this was not the kids' dad in any way. They put their stuff down and started to walk away, with the man following them. I decided to intervene and told him he couldn't use the self-checkout and had to come to me. He argued for a bit until I convinced him to come to me. So the kids and him walk up to my lane, and I put his stuff on the conveyor belt. I asked him if he needed bags and he said yes, so I called the other worker over to bag his stuff. While she's grabbing the bags I ask the kids what's going on here. They explained to me how they had no idea who the man was, and he just started following them around the store.

I look at the man, and he just sort of looks back at me. The lady who's bagging the groceries then noticed a pair of little girls' underwear in the stuff he's buying. She looked disturbed and kind of looked at me. I gave her the most I'm going to call the police look without him noticing.

So he pays, the lady finishes bagging, and he leaves. I call the police and explain to them what happened. They said to just hang up and they would call me from a private line. I tell them everything and they tell me to let them know when the man leaves the parking lot.

When he leaves, I call them again and let them know. They said they would be there in about 20 minutes. I asked what I should do with the kids. They told me to do my best to keep them in the store. I told the kids what was going on and they were obviously upset. So I took them to the break room, locked the door, and gave them some food. I told them I had to go back to the floor but that I would also call my manager and have her hang out with them until the police got there.

So I went back out on the floor and just mopped. I kept an eye on the parking lot until I saw the police pull up. They walked in the store and I waved them over. They took my manager in the back to take my statement. I finished cleaning up, then locked up the store. I never saw the kids again, but I hope everything turned out alright for them.
