[Removed] can't be bothered to read a book he assigns to his AP English class, so he asks us to give a 4-minute presentation about each chapter. Why does this *specifically* bother me so much?

This is an *extremely* whiny post, I warn you. It's just about a small situation that occurred today.

I'm a junior in high school, and as part of our AP English Language and Composition class, we are required to read multiple books. In this case, our teacher assigned us to read "White Noise" by Don DeLillo. Now, we're not just reading it for the sake of reading - we're analyzing it as part of the AP curriculum.

The issue arose when our teacher confessed that he hasn't actually read the book himself. He justified this by saying that he's "read the important parts" and that he's "watched a summary" of the book. I found this somewhat dismissive, especially considering we're expected to thoroughly analyze each chapter.

The real kicker came when he assigned each of us to give a 4-minute presentation about our assigned chapter. He asked us to summarize it, identify important elements, and discuss the author's tone, themes, and literary devices used in that particular chapter.

While I understand the value of presentations as a learning tool, I couldn't help but feel frustrated. It seemed like our teacher was essentially asking us to do his job for him. All the work of analyzing the book was being shifted onto us, without him even bothering to read it himself. I was surprised that he was being so blatant about it, and I couldn't help but wonder if this was happening in other classes as well.

I recognize that this is a minor issue in the grand scheme of things, and it's not like I'm going to fail the class or anything. Still, it bothers me that our teacher isn't putting in the effort to thoroughly read and analyze the book himself, especially when it's part of the AP curriculum. Has anyone else experienced something similar, or am I just being overly sensitive?

Edit: wow, this blew up. Thank you for your opinions. I'll make sure to bring it up to my school administration.

*P.S. teachers are not the enemy. I have plenty of teachers I love and respect and this doesn't change that.*
