My wife [28F] couldn't make my side of the bed and is worried I might have been with someone else while she was out of town.

My wife left for a few days to go and visit with her family. Before she left she made the bed and put clean sheets on it. I slept in it the first night but the second night I got in late and decided to just crash without messing with the covers. So I slept on top. The next day I went to work, I was running a little late and the bed was still open and messy from the night.

When I got home I had a voicemail from my wife asking where I was and that she was worried bc the bed was open and messy when she got home. I called her back and explained that I had just crashed the night before and went on to tell her I was running late and was in a hurry to get out the door. She was understanding and said ok but I can tell she was a little bothered. She has told me that if I sleep in the bed that I have to make it up so I could tell she was mad that it was open. I can also tell that she was a little suspicious bc she asked "you weren't with anyone last night was you". I told her no but she can be hard to convince sometimes.

Am I in the wrong here? How can I avoid this mess in the future?

EDIT: I get home from work, the bed is made. She has been making the bed every day bc she likes to be neat. I told her to stop making it every day bc it's just going to get messy again. It's reasonable to see her side and state her concern for the state of the bed. I get it but she saw no other signs of anyone else. I told her I didn't sleep in the bed I slept on top. And no, we're not gonna start sleeping in separate beds, that's just stupid.
