Why have I lost count of how many people I know who have died or are dying from COVID?

It's all I hear about now. It seems like this number grows weekly and now I've lost track of how many people have actually died. I'm a 41 year old man and know of 9 or 10 people who have died from this and I've lost count of how many are sick. My wife's aunt died last night. She was 58. My cousin's wife died last week. She was 42. I know of at least two people who are on ventilators and will likely die. Why does it seem like no one cares? The news doesn't even report the numbers anymore. It's all about the election nonsense.
