How to fake shoplift with an air of confidence

First, find a small item you can carry that fits in your hand like a candy bar.

Walk in to a store and go straight to a shelf. Look at a product, take your hand away from the product, and look at a nearby shelf. You're just looking around at stuff.

Next, casually take a product and place it in the palm of your hand so it's not illegal yet. If you want to look at the back of it, turn your body away from the cameras or angle your body a certain way so the camera can't get a good view of it. Take a look at the product as a curious shopper would.

Now, you're done looking at the product and you have it in your hand. Take a step to a nearby shelf and place the item down out of sight of the security cameras.

You've placed the item in a spot you won't be buying it from. The problem now is that the cameras have recorded you carrying a product with no store employees around to confirm that you put it down. It just looks like you shoplifted it.

Next, find a store employee. If you go straight to a cashier and pay with your hands in your pockets or with your sleeves covering your hands, it would be a clear sign that you're concealing something. So, you need to walk up to a store employee first.

Find a store employee and ask them a question or something so that they can see your hands. You're just a curious customer asking a question. You can even hold up a product in front of them and ask if they have any other flavors.

After confirming with the employee that they have the flavor you're looking for, say, "Oh, okay. Well, I don't think I like that flavor anyway."
You just made that up to waste the employee's time and to make them see you holding up a product.

Then, go back to a shelf and put the product down. Again, make sure the camera can't see you. But this time, you can show the camera a "plant" item. A plant item is another product that you'll hold up and look at so the camera can see it. But then, you'll just put it down.

So, you've either "shoplifted" an item and then you're holding a plant item. Or, you've held a plant item and you're now "shoplifting" an item.
The cameras will catch you "stealing" an item if you walk out of the store. But if you find an employee again, you can show them your hands and clear your name.

Now you can walk out of the store. If you were a real thief, this would be a win for you because you could have "stolen" something.

**But store employees will follow you**. And you might have a bunch of store employees waiting at the door for you. If you have stolen something they can't prove it yet, but they can prove you've done this before. They can call the police and have them arrest you for shoplifting in the past. You could get in legal trouble for fake shoplifting in the past. But I'm assuming you didn'tcommit any crimes in the past.

**So, why would anyone do this?**

1. **For fun**. You can turn a dull day at the mall into a game of cat and mouse.

2. **To get banned**. If you can make a convincing "theft" and you've already asked an employee a question and then walked to a different shelf without them, you can get banned for life. You can even get a trespassing notice.

3. **To catch the cameras in a lie**. Store cameras don't always tell the truth. Sometimes, they're pointed in a way to make it look like you illegal did something when you didn't. Sometimes, the lighting in the store is bad and the cameras are hard to see. If they can't see you, they'll just give you the benefit of the doubt and not call the police, right? Wrong.

I've used these tactics to get a trespassing notice. And then, I can use the notice to prove that I've never stolen anything in my life. If I get a trespassing notice from somewhere, it means I'm innocent and the cameras are lying.
