AITA for turning off a dish soap dispenser to conserve dish soap?

My (f26) boyfriend (m33) and I got a new kitchen dish soap dispenser. It runs off of batteries. We argued about the dispenser because I think it's a waste of money considering a dish soap bottle is only about $1 and that by using the dispenser, it'll use more soap so dish soap runs out faster. I took it to /c/HomeKeeping and they said that every night, I should turn off the dispenser to conserve soap. My boyfriend got mad at me for doing that and said that I just have to deal with it since he wanted the dispenser so bad and spent good money on it. I told him that I would just turn it off at night so he put it out of reach in his room.
