When I was a kid, I was taught how to use google maps but I never ended up really using it.

I was 20 years old when the first time it occurred to me to set Google Maps to walking mode. Some months later the thought crossed my mind to set it to the "avoid tolls" option and it blew my mind.

I didn't learn that the Google Maps app for mobile could use a different voice for the GPS until I was 26.

I did not learn how to use Google Maps to make lists of different places until I was 30.

I couldn't believe that we all have access to Google Maps, which is this amazingly powerful tool, and very few people know all the things that it can do. I had been taught the bare minimum of how to use it and the rest I just learned from experimenting or figuring it out on my own.

I started talking to people, friends, coworkers, family and it seemed like everyone was in the same boat as me. I thought this was a problem that needed to be solved and I think that I have come up with the solution:

When you install an app, it will prompt you to take the tutorial. But the thing is, we all don't need the same level of guidance. Some people are more tech savvy and pick up on things quickly. Others might need more help. Some people might want to be left alone and figure things out on their own.

The way that it works is that you download an app and it asks you if you want to take the tutorial or if you'd rather get a weekly email with a helpful hint for how to use the app. Each week, a new email gets sent to you, and you can always reply to the email and go back to an old hint if you want to review it. This way, you can be constantly learning new ways to use the app, all the time, as long as you have it, with out having to read a million different tutorials.

I have written a letter to Google about this and I hope that they will make the app that I described. I hope that they will also make tutorials for the Google apps that are built into phones, like Google Photos and Google Voice. And I hope that it will be a feature that will be available for the whole Google Suite of apps.

I use it every day. I have been able to learn about all the different things that Google Maps can do and I feel like I'm getting the full benefits of having access to this tool. I hope that everyone will be able to have it.
