Possibly not the best sub to post this question to, but well, here it is.
I'm relatively seasoned traveler and I have had my fair share of funny, sad and absurd things that have happened to me while traveling, but the most absurd one will be the one that will stick with me forever.

Back in 2001 I was flying from Denmark to Finland with Finnair (back then it was a really good airline). I was tired after a long work week and was looking forward to boarding and sleeping during the 1 hour or so long flight. I walk to the gate and notice that something seems off. I ask someone wearing a Finnair livery and she says that the flight is cancelled because "the captain has broken his hand when punching a wall". Additional information was given that when the captain was told that the flight would be grounded due to bad weather he punched the wall in frustration and broke his hand. I sort of reappraised the notion that Finns are a calm and collected people after this. As this was a late evening flight so I had to be rescheduled to an early flight the day after.
