I have IBS-C and I’m wondering if it’s safe to take Metamucil to relieve constipation (it is Psyllium)

I have IBS-C and I’m wondering if it’s safe to take Metamucil to relieve constipation (it is Psyllium). I have suffered from this problem for about 17 years. I’ve tried laxatives but my stomach is very sensitive to laxatives. I have a lot of belly pain. I’m wondering if the psyllium will help IBS-C or make it worse?
