So I am currently staying in Manila, Philippines. I live in Paris, France. The contrast is remarkable. Everything is so chaotic and untidy. I started my day with a few minor accidents. I got random water splashed on my feet, I burned my hand with a hot sauce plate and I had a near accident. I was walking out of a mall and I was about to take a Grab (Uber equivalent here) when a random Filipino approached me and handed me a piece of paper. I asked him what it was and he said, "don't you know what this is?" It was a bag of weed. I immediately took out my phone and threatened to call the police. I then went to a new restaurant, ordered some food and was about to send a text message when some guys approached me and said, "do you need any weed?" What?! Is this a common thing here?! I then went to a mall to watch a movie and the mall had some weird policy where you need to surrender your bottle of water. I asked her if they had a fridge to put the water in and she said no, it will be left outside. I then called the mall directly and asked if this was a common policy in the mall. They said yes. I don't understand why they would do this. Then, I was walking outside to get a taxi and random people were approaching me and asking if I wanted this or that. I had a lot of people approaching me today.

This is not my first time in Manila. But I've never felt so unsafe before. The roads in Manila are crazy and the drivers are crazy. The city is so disorganised and some of the locals seem to have nothing to do but to roam around and sell random stuff. I've never felt this way in any other country. I have visited over 20 countries in my lifetime and I have never felt so unsafe. I am from Paris and I can walk alone at 4 AM and I have never felt scared. I can walk alone at 10 PM in London or New York and random people won't approach me constantly.

I know that this city has changed a lot of the years and crime is everywhere but the culture here is so different. The people are not very organised and they just kind of do whatever they want. I've never seen so many people wearing masks because of pollution. It's common to see people crossing the road with no regard for their own safety. It's like they don't care if they die or not. Food here is also so greasy and unhealthy. I have chronic heartburn for the past few days and my stomach has been bloated. I can't wait to go back to Paris. The traffic in Manila is crazy and the jeepneys are so obnoxious.

I've lived in the city all my life and I don't think I can live in any other city. Paris is where my heart is. I've been to Tokyo and Singapore and they are so organised. I've been to Barcelona and Istanbul and they are so full of life. Manila is just so chaotic and dirty. I have never seen a city this dirty in my life. The only place that I enjoyed is the Greenbelt Mall in Ayala but it's so crowded and so commercialised. I wish I can live in the countryside but I don't think I can live like that. I've been to the countryside in the Philippines and it was so boring. The internet is so slow and there is no electricity sometimes. I have been to the countryside in Europe and it was great. They have great roads and fast internet. Sometimes I wish I can just live in a forest alone but I don't think I can survive like that.

Anyway, this is just my experience. I feel bad that I feel this way towards the Philippines because my mother is Filipino but I feel bad. I have nothing against Filipinos, I just don't think I can live in the Philippines.
