Why is traveling so popular now?

I’m from Eastern Europe and I fell like during the last 2-3 years everybody in my country is traveling. I understand that traveling is fun. I also like to travel, but it became so popular. Every new week I hear about somebody’s trip in a new country. It became so common and everybody talks about what countries they have been. I hear people say stuff like “yeah we went to Thailand, but we didn’t enjoy it, because it’s full of tourists!”. Every boyfriend these days has an Asian country in his “been there” list. What’s going on?
