I can't stop thinking about how Kyle Rittenhouse is out on bail.

He's in hiding, with some of his bail money donated to his case. He is not in jail.

Meanwhile:

I know a woman who's been in jail since May 30th, 2020 for taking a lighter from a Walmart. Does anyone know what happened to her? Did she go to trial? Is she still in jail? No one talks about her because she committed a real crime. She didn't have time on her side, Kyle does. Do you think she's going to be given the same rights to bail as Kyle was? I highly doubt it. She will probably be released from jail, go through her trial, be proven guilty, and possibly spend time in prison. I don't know what the punishment is for grand larceny, or whatever the charge is when you take something and then attack a cashier who recognizes you. She will probably be released from her sentence in a few years, go back to her normal life, and no one will remember this ever happened.

Kyle Rittenhouse is a very real example of white privilege in the US. I know people have been in jail for less, and others have been released on bail for more. Many people have been treated unfairly by the legal system, and have suffered at the hands of officers who abuse their power. I don't know her story, I don't know her name, I don't know why she decided to take a lighter. The same goes for Kyle Rittenhouse. But we hear about Kyle, and the reason we do is because he's a white man who killed people. We don't hear about the black woman in jail who took a lighter. We don't hear about the black man with a broken spine and brain damage. We don't hear about multiple people of color who are victims of police brutality.

Kyle Rittenhouse is a real example of how bad cop behavior is being excused. I didn't watch or hear about the video that showed cops being friendly to Kyle, but I know it exists. I know police officers who we've all seen have said some fucked up shit and then gotten their jobs back.

Kyle Rittenhouse is an example of the systemic white privilege that has only grown more apparent over the past few years. I know people who say the system is fine and white privilege isn't real. I know people who use the phrase "reverse racism" to defend the United States.

Kyle Rittenhouse is an example of the desperate need for the US to change and grow as a country.
