Working fast food is a totally brutal life-altering existence that most of us can't even imagine, and not enough people have experienced it. It is a culture of high turnover rates, low pay, and hostile customers. Added on top of that is the fact that minimum wage has not changed in years, meaning it's even harder to make ends meet as a fast food worker (a fact that I'm sure most of you are aware of).

I believe that everyone in the US should have to work at least 1 year in the fast food industry before they turn 18. I think this would have numerous benefits, including:

\* More people would be empathetic to the struggles of fast food workers, and therefore tip them/act nicer to them (a common critique of this stance is that many people already have to do this because they don't come from wealthy families. This would make everyone in the same boat)

\* Many teenagers would be inspired to figure out a way to go to college or trade school so they can get a better job

\* If teenagers already know what it's like to be in the shoes of fast food workers, they should be more open to the idea of raising minimum wage, or at least be able to sympathize with fast food workers and not harass them.

I've worked fast food for almost 2 years, and it's been a life-altering experience that has opened my eyes to the injustices of society. However, I don't think everyone should have to do something so terrible, so I narrowed it down to 1 year, and you can be any role; manager, cook, cashier, janitor, whatever. For everyone to go through what we go through is ridiculous, and the fact that anyone has to do it is messed up.
