First year teacher, happy with the students, so overwhelmed by the admin.

Hello all! I'm a first year history teacher in the Boston area. I did have a mentor, but she's a history teacher in a different building so we don't get to chat that often. I love my students and they're all great. I feel like my classroom management is alright-ish, I have one kid I struggle with but I will put myself on that.

I really struggle with the administrative side of things. I've got 4 preps, which I know is a lot for a first year teacher, and I run out of time to get everything done every day. I had to proctor the SATs, and my principal was mad that I didn't email him ahead of time and ask to be excused, even though I was told that I had to proctor. I also ran out of copies of a worksheet and had to print more really fast, but ran out of color ink, and my principal told me that I should have anticipated running out of ink, and ordered more ahead of time.

I feel like I can't keep up, and the expectations are so vague. I'm sure other schools are different, but at my school we don't have a staff handbook, and I was never given any kind of new teacher guide. It's just a lot of "figure it out." Not to mention I'm already working 70 hour weeks, and it doesn't feel sustainable. Any advice?
