Why would people work as police officers?

Doing police work at this time, as the world seems to be on fire with everything going on in the US, is dead last choice for prestigious jobs like in the previous world. We already see that we are having trouble finding quality candidates.<br><br>Surely the lack of legal immigration and the Nature of the Great war that there is no scarcity of jobs, that people are not forced to join the police by financial desperation, or at least not as much. Given the scarcity of jobs in the past world, there is a lot of job openings in the prestigious jobs like medicine, engineering etc, that now there are options for bright students now and no one is forced to join the police as a default.
