I recently had my students answer some poll questions. I am in a different country than the USA (And I'm not American) so I thought it would be some fun. I have 200 or so tenth grade students who answer these. I won't give the name of my country, but it is a very developed country.

**Poll Question 1: What political stance do you have?**

Far Left (11.4%), Left (24.5%), Centre (48.2%), Right (8.6%), Far Right (1.4%), I don't know/I don't care (6.0%)

This is a great graph to see political stances, and I do agree that most younger generations do lean to the left. It was good to see that most of my students are in the centre.

**Poll Question 2: Would you support a law to ban single use plastics?**

Agree (90.7%), Okay (7.4%), Disagree (0.0%), I don't know/I don't care (1.9%)

I was not expecting 90% here and it actually made me really happy. I didn't know my students cared this much about the environment. This was surprising to me and I actually had to zoom in on the graph to see if there was any people who disagreed because I thought it was 100% who agreed.

**Poll Question 3: Should schools prioritise teaching students life skills over academics?**

Agree (77.2%), Okay (6.4%), Disagree (8.2%), I don't know/I don't care (8.2%)

Here is how students see what how schools should be run. I completely agree with this answer, schools are here for students to learn and grow and life skills are just as important as academics. Sure, not 100%, but 77% is still great here.

**Poll Question 4: If you were given the choice, would you delete social media?**

Agree (54.5%), Okay (30.9%), Disagree (10.4%), I don't know/I don't care (4.2%)

This one was a great question to ask students. Back in the day, students used to say school was the easiest time of their life. I would love to ask that question to some of my students. It seems about half of them would delete social media if they had the choice.

**Poll Question 5: Should there be a global carbon tax?**

Agree (72.5%), Okay (6.3%), Disagree (5.8%), I don't know/I don't care (15.4%)

Again, another great answer. I'm glad they care about the environment. This is a great sign to see. Our country is already a first world country and is wealthy enough to support a carbon tax. Also, this could help the environment and stop climate change.

**Poll Question 6: What kind of thing does your family do for work?**

Doctor/Nurse/Hospital (4.6%), Engineer/Programmer/Software Developer (14.9%), Service Job (34.4%), Business/Entrepreneur (11.6%), Labour/Manufacturing/Construction (5.6%), Student (0.6%), Agriculture (0.6%), Government (0.3%), Other (3.4%), I don't know/I don't care (24.0%)

This is a great question to ask. The top answer is Service Jobs which makes sense. It is not a red flag. I use a service job to also mean working at McDonald's or anything like that. I was glad some of my students have parents who are doctors. I was glad to see that some of my students parents are programmers and software developers. I do teach and live in a good area so it can be expected. Labour/Manufacturing/Construction is also a popular answer. I was actually surprised by the number of students who say "I don't know/I don't care". I know it can be hard to know and remember what your parents do, but it's good to know.

**Poll Question 7: What do you think about students protesting in school?**

For (52.5%), Against (7.0%), I don't care/I don't know/I am indifferent (40.5%)

For this question, I gave the definition of protesting as a peaceful protest. I am glad that more than half of my students are for students protesting in school. As a teacher, personally, I don't mind this either. However, I do think protesting in school is not a good answer here. If students want to protest, they should do it outside of school. School is not the right place to protest. But I'm glad that most of my students are for it.

**Poll Question 8: Should the school have school uniforms?**

Agree (26.0%), Okay (27.7%), Disagree (26.4%), I don't know/I don't care (20.0%)

I actually found this question interesting to ask. Most of my students are either indifferent or they are split about school uniforms. However, since students don't care about this, it doesn't really matter. Since this is the way it is at my school, I believe it will not change. I personally don't mind either way.

**Poll Question 9: Would you use a virtual reality headset in school?**

Agree (76.4%), Okay (13.6%), Disagree (2.1%), I don't know/I don't care (7.9%)

I actually found this question interesting as well. I was glad to see that more than 75% of my students were up for using virtual reality headsets in school. We don't have any at our school but I think it's a great idea. Students could learn a lot more than just looking at a textbook and study different places virtually.

**Poll Question 10: What is your religion?**

Christianity (12.4%), Islam (0.6%), Hinduism (0.0%), Buddhism (0.3%), Sikhism (0.6%), Atheism (59.5%), Other (3.4%), I don't know/I don't care (23.2%)

This is a great question to ask. I am glad that most of my students are not religious. This is a great sign to see. Of course, everyone can be religious if they want to. However, it's always good to question your beliefs and use your common sense. I am glad about this. However, the number of students who said "I don't know/I don't care" was very high. I think it's always important to know your religion and to have a basic understanding of it.

**Poll Question 11: Should school lunches be free?**

Agree (85.5%), Okay (3.4%), Disagree (3.4%), I don't know/I don't care (7.7%)

I was glad here that the majority of students thought school lunches should be free. It actually already is in our school. I don't know if I would send my kids here though.

**Poll Question 12: What do you think about dress codes in school?**

For (30.5%), Against (52.5%), I don't care/I don't know/I am indifferent (17.0%)

This is a great question. I was glad to see that more than half of my students are against dress codes. I believe dress codes are sexualising students in a way. I do think there needs to be some dress code of course. But I don't think it needs to be strict at all. It's actually not very strict in our school.

That's it. Thanks for reading this.
