Are some old sci-fi movies stuck in the past?

My wife loves camping out to sci-fi movies... which is cool and all. But it’s just astonishing how stuck in the past they are. I mean some old movies are great and all, but some movies from the late 80s are still prominently being watched and referenced. See Aliens or Terminator for example. To me, it’s just like.. “have you not seen the insane advancements in technology and sci-fi in the last 5-10 years? Why are we watching this old movie from 1986 again?” I feel like I’m missing something.

If you haven’t seen Blade Runner then that’s cool, but why not watch the newer Blade Runner movie that has the same themes but in a much more modern/realistic setting? I feel like old sci-fi movies are like watching a black and white film from the 60s in the 2020s. It’s not like sci-fi movies get worse as they get more recent or anything, it’s just weird to me that you’d still care about watching these older movies. And it’s not like it’s a niche... this is super common.
