What is wrong with me? I smoke weed on the regular, I can’t handle three edibles?

The nausea starts as soon as I finally arrive at the restaurant. I’m late. I was supposed to be here 20 minutes ago, but I totally forgot how to drive a car.

“Hey, what’s up?”

I look up to see my date, Brenden, standing in front of me. He’s still really cute, which is important.

“Not much,” I respond, trying to sound as composed as possible.

“When did you get here?”

“When did I get here?” I ask, pretending I didn’t hear it the first time.

“Yes.”

“When did I get here?” I ask again.

Brenden laughs. “You mean you don’t remember?”

We both laugh awkwardly, but I do remember. I got here about 30 minutes ago, but I forgot how to get into the restaurant. I kept walking into the automatic doors, thinking they would open, but they wouldn’t. I stood there for god knows how long, until a guy came out and said, “Aren’t you going to walk through the doors?”

I didn’t say anything. I just walked through the doors and into the restaurant, where I had no idea where to go. Instead of walking to the table, I walked to the bar, where I ordered a beer. They asked for my ID, but I didn’t have it, so I just gave them my student ID, and said, “Here, drink this.” They looked at me confused, then asked again for my ID. I realized I didn’t have it and just wandered off.

I wandered around for a while, wondering where I was and who all these people were, then I finally remembered that I was here to meet Brenden. I couldn’t find him, so I just sat down at a table and waited. This was 15 minutes ago, and thanks to the cancerous demon known as time, it felt like 15 years.

“Ok, so let’s sit down,” Brenden suggested.

I stood up and realized I didn’t know where I was going again. Brenden handed me the menus and we sat down at a table, and I ordered a beer. It’s not like it’s going to make me more high or anything.

We sat silently for a while until Brenden said, “Not to sound like your dad or anything, but how did you get here?”

I looked at him, not really sure what to say. “I drove,” I replied.

“Are you sure that’s safe?”

I thought for a second before answering. “Yes, I’m sure that’s safe.”

He laughed. “Ok, good.”

This is awkward, stop laughing. “So, what do you like to do for fun?” I asked, trying to get the conversation started again.

“What do you like to do?”

“Oh, the usual.”

“The usual?”

“Yes.”

“Well what’s the usual?”

“Uh...” I realized I didn’t know what was the usual. “I don’t know.”

“Well why did you say ignore it then?”

“I didn’t.”

“Yes you did.”

“No I did not.”

“Yes you did. Do you want to order appetizers?”

I didn’t say anything. I just looked at the menu.

“Are you ok?”

“I’m fine.”

I finally realized that I was supposed to order something. I looked up at the waiter and said, “I’ll have the nachos.”

“There’s no nachos here.”

“Ok, I’ll have the nachos then.”

“Listen, miss, if you can’t function enough to read the menu, I’m going to have to ask you to leave.”

I realized that everyone was staring at me, so I stood up and screamed at the top of my lungs, “I KNOW I CAN READ! I JUST DON’T WANT TO READ ANYTHING BUT NACHOS RIGHT NOW!”

Everybody started gasping and covering their mouths. Some people got up from their tables and started walking towards the exits. I couldn’t understand why. Brenden got up and walked over to me and put his hands on my shoulders.

“I think we should go somewhere else,” he said.

I nodded silently as he guided me out of the restaurant.

“I’m sorry,” I said. “I didn’t know I was allergic.”

“Allergic?”

“Allergic to the edibles.”

“How many did you eat?”

“Three.”

“Three? Are you crazy?”

I looked at him, not saying anything.

“Well I guess you’re not the type of girl to do anything normal, so I can’t expect you to eat a normal amount of edibles.”

I realized he was mad at me. “I’m sorry,” I said again. “I really like you.”

“Me too,” he said. “That’s why I asked you out.”

I didn’t say anything, I just looked at him.

“Wow,” he said. “You really are beautiful. I didn’t notice that until now.”

“Thanks.”

“Do you want to kiss me?” he asked.

“Yes.”

He leaned in, and we kissed for a really long time. I finally pulled away and said, “Do you want to come back to my house?”

He smiled, then took my hand and said, “Let’s go.”

I smiled back, then pulled away and said, “Where am I going?”

Brenden looked at me angrily, and stepped into my personal space. “Listen, if you can’t handle three fucking edibles, then don’t fucking eat them,” he said. “I didn’t think it was possible for a girl to be this stupid.”

I started to cry. “I thought we were going to have a nice date.”

“Well thanks to you, we can’t.”

I continued to cry as he told me to go home and never contact him again. I walked away, not knowing where I was going. I finally ended up at my car, where I collapsed onto the pavement and laid there until I finally came to and realized I had to drive home.

I don’t remember the drive. I don’t remember anything until I got to my bed, where I am currently laying. I got home about 2 hours ago, but it feels like I’ve been here forever.

Time is a sick bastard.

I finally fell asleep, but now I’m awake again. It’s 3 in the morning, and I’m still high. I don’t smoke enough to function like this.

I laid in bed for a while, playing games on my phone, until I heard a noise coming from my closet. I looked up to see my coat moving, as if something was trying to come out. I grabbed my scissors and walked over, my heart racing.

As I finally opened the closet, the coat fell to the ground, and out came a cat. It was grey, and it walked up to me and started purring.

I picked up the cat and held it in my arms. It laid its head on my shoulder, then started licking my face. I laughed, then looked at the cat and said, “Are you a magical cat?”

The cat said, “Yes, I am.”

I couldn’t believe it. I had a magical cat. I laughed again, then said, “Make the pain of Brenden leaving me go away.”

The cat meowed, then stepped back from me. “You have to be careful what you wish for,” it said. “Are you sure you want to forget him?”

“Yes,” I replied. “I never want to remember him again.”

The cat nodded, then jumped up to my desk, where it picked up a small notebook and started writing something with a pencil. It then came back to me and handed me the paper.

I took it and read what it said:

“I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you look like. I don’t know your name. I don’t know anything about you. I don’t even know how I got here. Why am I here?”

This is my life now.
