How to cancel a democratic primary before the general election

First, I want to say I love Bernie, I've loved him for years, I think he would be a great president, but most importantly I love a democratic government. I am a democrat, I vote democrat, but I am not a BernieBro, and this is not intended as a hit piece. This is not meant to fan the flames of divisiveness, but to point out how the democratic process works.

This isn't satire, this is what would have to happen for Bernie to be cancelled as the democratic nominee. I believe that this is a necessary post, as it seems like a lot of people here think he is a shoo-in for president. I think we all need to understand that the democratic process, while not perfect, is still a powerful beast. I have seen a lot of post with "It's 2016 all over again" or "The DNC are trying to cancel Bernie again," and I just want to help clarify this process.

There are 5 things that would have to happen for Bernie to be a cancelled democratic candidate.

**Step 1: Bernie wins the democratic nomination.**
This is mainly self explanatory. Bernie would have to maintain the majority vote for the remainder of the primary season without (see step 3).

**Step 2: Bernie is given the democratic nationalist nomination before the general election.**
The national convention is like the democratic circular firing squad, where delegates from all the states race to get the best position to vote for the nominee. This is where each state is given a number of delegate votes based on how democratic the state was in the last election, with the more democratic states getting more votes. Without going into too much detail, states that have already voted give their delegates to the winning candidate, states that have not voted yet have their delegates vote based on the primary polls for their state. In this way, things like gerrymandering and voter suppression have a big impact on the final tally. This is where the DNC can manipulate certain states "accidentally" change their votes.

**Step 3: Bernie's campaign is investigated for election interference or voter suppression.**
This is where the DNC will "accidentally" find out about election interference. This is where people like Manafort, Assange, and Putin come in. It would have to be shown that the campaign was directly involved in the interference (like with Trump in 2016). The investigation would have to be done by the FBI before the general election. If the investigation was not finished before the general election, it would not have any effect on the nomination.

**Step 4: Bernie is stripped of the democratic nomination.**
This is where the DNC would have to decide to force Bernie off the ticket. In this case, they could possibly choose the next candidate with the majority vote, however they would have to agree to this before the general election. This is where the democratic process would really go into circular firing squad mode. If the DNC couldn't get all the other candidates to agree, then the democratic nominee would be decided by a run off vote (see below).

**Step 5: Run off vote before the general election.**
The run off vote is a vote that happens in each state between the candidates who received the majority vote in the primary. This is often considered to be a waste of time and resources as the majority vote candidates change from state to state. To give you an idea of the waste of time and resources, in 2016, Georgia had a runoff for the U.S. Senator Republican candidate, then the democratic candidate lost, then the republican senator died and the governor had to appoint a replacement. One month later there was another runoff to fill the seat.
This is how the democratic process works for both parties. I believe this is the biggest weakness of the democratic process, as it is expensive, divisive, and time consuming. We usually don't have runoffs because the majority vote candidate wins the primary, and the other candidates cede that a run off is a waste of time (as seen in 2020).

So, here's the final verdict: Bernie will not be cancelled this year. There is not enough time for these 5 steps. The general election is only a few months away, and the democratic process is (intentionally?) slow and tiring. I hope this post helps to inform people how the process works.

To my fellow democrats, let's all get together to vote out Trump!
