What does it mean to live a meaningful life?

I think that everyone knows that material possessions don’t last forever and no matter how much money you make, or how good of a house you have, it isn’t going to last forever. If that is the case, then I would think that the best way to create meaning is to create long lasting relationships and create a lasting legacy. But what is the point of leaving a lasting legacy, if you are no longer there to see it?
