Part of being a responsible adult is knowing when you need to switch sides

There are so many examples in history, and the present, of people who have stayed with "the right side" but were actually wrong.

Example: Just because you are a US citizen does not mean the US govt is the right side all the time.

If someone from another nation is speaking truth about the US govt, then it is wrong to ignore them just because you are patriotic. Your govt is doing criminal things, its ok to admit that. Its actually more patriotic to speak out against your govt when they are doing wrong.

Same with a lot of other things, like your job, your university or institute - if you find out they're doing something wrong, you need to speak out. If you ignore it or cover it up, you're complicit.

There are tons of other examples, like sports teams / sports leagues / religious groups / anything really. At some point you're no longer being loyal, you're just being a fool.

Example: Catholic church covering up the pedo priests. It was a lie to "protect" the church, but in reality it was a betrayal of the church and harmed the church immeasurably.
