AITA for telling my daughter that her boyfriend is a “gold digging loser” after he wanted us to pay for their down payment for their house as her “birthday gift” to him?

So my 28 year old daughter has been dating this 26 year old man for 3 years. They have been living together for 1 year.<br><br>Yesterday, my wife and I were invited over to their place for dinner.<br><br>Before I go any further, I have to state that my daughter and her bf are not stupid. They’re not lazy. They make good money- well, my daughter does. She makes good money doing IT. She takes care of herself. She’s smart as hell. Her boyfriend works in some kind of management. I’m not totally sure how much he makes, but he doesn’t make as much as my daughter.<br><br>So, over dinner yesterday, my daughter’s bf pulls out a box of a silver necklace, and gives it to my daughter. I’m assuming it’s her birthday gift from him since her birthday is coming up. But after he gives it to her, she starts to cry, and then she says that the “best gift she can give him is her parents”. I was confused and asked wtf that means. Then it hits me. They want us to pay for their down payment for their house. Mind you, neither of them have ever saved up for anything. They have never even talked about saving up for anything. <br><br>So, I asked them how much they need. He tells me they need 50k. And I just lost it. I told him that he’s a gold digging loser and that he and my daughter are very entitled. <br><br>My daughter called me an asshole and her bf said he’s going to “beat my ass in front of my wife”. But he didn’t and he backed down when I told him I’d take my cane and whack him in the balls if he ever threatened me again. <br><br>Anyway, I left the apartment after that.
