Why am I, a former soldier, being framed for the murder of a king, in a obviously made up fantasy land filled with those typical fantasy creatures, being judged by a council of people who are obviously using a list of rules?

As I sat in the hard wooden chair, rubbing the dried blood from my eyes, I couldn't help but wonder what the hell was going on here. This wasn't my life anymore, so why was I here? This was the life I left behind. I had grown tired of being a soldier, tired of being told what to do and where to go. I had joined the military to serve my country, but after two tours overseas, I had realized that this wasn't for me. I had left and started work as an EMT. Life was good until a weird little ball of light came down and took me back here.

A hand slammed on the long wooden table in front of me, making me jump. "What say you? Are you not guilty of this horrible crime, or are you just refusing to speak?" A man with a long white beard asked.

"I am not guilty, your honor. This entire thing is insane. framed? King, what king? Where am I? What is all of this?"

"It is obvious that the previous beatings have damaged your mind, young one. You will not lie to us anymore." He said.

"No, I'm pretty sure I'm not insane, and I'm positive I'm not going crazy. You see, I'm not from... wherever here is. I'm from a place called Earth. There's no magic, and we don't have all the different races you people do. I have no idea what the hell is going on here." I said.

"Oh, so now you try to play dumb, eh? Well, let me tell you something, young one, you are not special. You will not be forgiven for this heinous crime because of your "lack of memory". You will be put to death, like the traitor you are. You will be beheaded, burned, and then your remains will be tossed out at sea." The bearded man said.

"Wait, what? What are you talking about? What king did I allegedly kill? I don't remember killing anyone."

"Enough! You will rot on that island, with nothing but the voices in your own mind!" He slammed his hand on the table again.

As the guards started to lead me away in shackles, a woman with blue hair and a white dress stood up. "I do not think that this man is guilty, council."

"Oh? You think he isn't guilty, little girl?" the bearded man asked condescendingly.

"No. this man has no aura. If he is magic wielding, as we all are, he should have an aura, which he does not. I also sense no magic in his body. He does not lie. Why should we end his life, when we are not even sure he committed any crime?"

The bearded man slammed his hand down a third time. "Enough of your words, child. You know nothing of this world yet. He will be put to death." He said.

As I was dragged out of the room, and towards the door, I saw a piece of paper on the ground. I made the assumption that this was the list of rules, and bent down to pick it up.

Rule #1: No one is allowed to attack or otherwise harm another person without just cause.

Rule #2: No one is allowed to steal, either from the market, or another's house, without just cause.

Rule #3: No one is allowed to knowingly give false information.

Rule #4: No one is allowed to take the lord's name in vain.

Rule #5: Troles are not to be tolerated

Rule #6: Under no circumstances is anybody to kill, or otherwise harm the king.

Rule #7: Any and all people caught breaking one or more of these rules will be beheaded, burned, then tossed out to sea.

Rule #8: All prisoners will be placed on the island of the damned, where their heads will eventually be cut off, their bodies burned, then their remains tossed out to sea.

Rule #9: All people who are deemed too powerful, will be placed on the island of the damned, and will eventually be beheaded, their bodies burned, then their remains tossed out to sea.

Rule #10: No person is allowed to know the rules, or they will be considered too powerful, and will eventually be beheaded, their bodies burned, then their remains tossed out to sea.

I looked up to see the bearded man staring me in the face. "Well, well, well. This changes things. It looks as though we have a rule breaker, who is also too powerful. Take him away, and be sure that he is securely locked away."

As the guards dragged me away, I had only one thought. Why the hell am I here?
