Going to buy a .22 revolver or pistol with my tax refund. Never owned a firearm before

So from the title, you can tell I'm a first time gun owner. I've never held a real gun - just ones for airsoft and paintball. I have a short barrel Rossi 3" .22 sp. revolver and a Ruger Mark IV target pistol left to choose from at my local gun store, each for $400. I've read good things about both. It's going to be used for target shooting and probably buying a lot of .22 ammo. What are your thoughts? Complete beginner here.<br><br>tl;dr: 3" Rossi revolver or Ruger mark IV .22 pistol.
