In the past, being relatively uneducated or lacking raw intelligence didn’t mean you would be left behind.

You could do menial jobs that don’t require much thought, as long as you had a bit of common sense, like a laborer.

As AI becomes increasingly applied to the world, it’s becoming apparent that people like laborers won’t be employable. Not because the jobs are physically demanding, but because they are now too cognitively demanding. Robots are pretty good at lifting stuff now.

This is because automation applied to the most basic tasks like cleaning, landscaping, and similar will require humans to be able to notice the job wasn’t done right, to do the task manually.

In turn, the menial jobs won’t be unskilled. They’ll require the ability to notice when the AI is wrong, which is a job task associated with educated people.

So, if you don’t have a high level of raw intelligence, or higher education, you won’t be able to do anything now.

You can’t be an unskilled menial laborer, because you’ll need to do the tasks manually sometimes. You can’t do a good office job, because you are too dumb, and the office jobs will be even more advanced.

What do you think will happen to these people?
