HOW TO LIFT AT TARGET

edit: this is an update

I work at Target. It’s not that hard to lift there, just don’t be a dumbass. I don’t condone shoplifting, but hey if that’s what you do, I’m not gonna judge you. I’d never do anything to get in trouble with the law, but I get that this sub is for support for people in the life, so I’ll share some info from an employee’s perspective. It’s not hard to lift here, but the cameras are good.
If you’re gonna lift here you gotta be slick and not look like a shoplifter. If you look like a shoplifter, they will follow you around. Wear a smile and act normal.
The cameras are in the ceiling and the employees can zoom in on them from the tablets. Some cameras point toward the walls, some point toward the center of the floor. If you’re gonna do something shady, have an eye out for the camera above you and make sure your actions are out of view. Don’t stand there for a minute trying to get something in your clothes. You will get caught.
If you walk in the door with a bag, they won’t care. But don’t walk out the door with a bag unless you have a receipt. If you don’t have the paper or email receipt, walk back to the service desk and they will give you a new one. If you go in the store and lift something, then walk out with a bag, just go to the self checkout and pay for something cheap then walk out with the item in the bag. If you have a bag with something in it, lose it while you’re walking around the store. There will likely be a few other bags on the floor that are lost, and it’s not weird to see that.
If you lift and pay for something and get caught after the purchase, you will not be charged with shoplifting. You will be charged with theft. This is much more vague and the sentence will be much less severe. I’ve seen this happen and they usually only get community service.
As a last resort, if you get caught while walking out the door, just put the item down and run if you have to. Don’t try to fight employees or LP. They call the police immediately. I’ve seen this happen and they will run your license plate if they can while you’re running and catch up to you when you stop.
If someone confronts you on camera, which they probably won’t. Stop, drop, and roll. It’s not worth it to get caught.
If you get caught by an employee, just play stupid. Say that you thought you paid for it but you didn’t and that you’re sorry and will just pay for it with card or cash. They will likely let you go without calling the police. If they want to call the police, play dumb, but try to talk your way out of it. Don’t be a dumbass and argue with the employee. They don’t care if they call the police or not. They’re just doing their job.
You don’t need to conceal and carry weapons. A knife or taser or just anything at all will probably just get you in more trouble. If you need to carry a weapon, that’s not shoplifting, that’s armed robbery. It’s not worth it to get caught and get a huge fine or get locked away for a few years. Don’t be a dumbass.
Employee here. Don’t be a dumbass. Do not bring a weapon in the store. Don’t try to fight employees. They will just call the cops and you won’t be able to run after that. If you get caught, just be humble and say you’re sorry and that you forgot to pay for it. Don’t do this at self scan, if you do and get caught, you will get called to the office and they will strip search you and call the cops on you. Don’t be a fucking idiot.
