The reason you see rank culture exploding on your social media feeds is because it's an evolution of a toxic part of our culture that we've been indulging for years without any progress of self awareness.

LCM was always the more toxic side of beauty. LCM has always been critical, and abusive, even before the spoken word of "rank culture." But it's always been the underbelly that everyone knew about but didn't speak about.

Now "rank culture" is a word, and spoken words are very powerful. And that's why you see "rank culture" exploding everywhere. It's because it's the language that describes the LCM behavior we've been normalizing for years.

"Rank Culture" is the very modern, very spoken word form of the toxic parts of LCM. The language itself did not create the behavior, but now that we have a word to put to the behavior, we're going to see even more of it because words have power. When you give a word to a thing, you give it a visual form, you give it an identity. And this identity will continue to grow whether we want it to or not.

And "rank culture" will soon extend past your face and body.

LCM was always more toxic than other beauty subcultures. And soon we will see "rank culture" reaching beyond your face and body and will expand to being critical of other parts of your identity and life.

Right now you see "rank culture" being mostly critical of your physical form, such as being critical of the way you smile, the way you eat, the way you talk, the way you dance, the way your hands look, the way you walk, the shape of your eyes, the shape of your teeth, the size of your lips.

But "rank culture" will soon be critical of your intelligence, your moral compass, your choice in occupation, your choice in hobbies, your tastes in music, your fashion choices. It will be critical of your beliefs, your religion, your ethnicity, your nationality.

And when this happens, there will be even more people saying "rank culture is bad" but the criticisms will still continue.

The reason why you see "rank culture" today is because we never did anything about the normalization of the toxicity of LCM. We just allowed it to continue to grow, evolve, and mutate into the form it is today. And if we continue to do nothing about "rank culture" now, it will continue to grow, evolve, and mutate into an even more toxic form.

But you can't stop a toxic culture from growing. It doesn't matter how many times we say "rank culture is toxic." Criticizing the culture doesn't stop a toxic culture from growing.

Toxicity is a self-perpetuating cycle that cannot be stopped unless we stop participating in it and create new cycles of behavior. You cannot criticize a toxic behavior unless you are willing to replace it with a new behavior.
