Right now I am drinking milk tea in a restaurant in a major Chinese city. The restaurant is a pretty typical Chinese milk tea place, there's a menu on the wall with like 20 options that come in 2 sizes. I've been coming to this place for half a year, the staff know me pretty well. They make each drink to order.

Before I walked in a young couple walked in and was served ahead of me. I was never acknowledged. The guy who greeted me was on a phone call. In addition to the couple, all the staff were standing around talking to a guy who seemed to be doing some kind of business with them. I counted 7 people standing around talking, not one of whom was serving me or the couple.

After a few minutes, two more people came in behind me, and one of the staff went over to serve them. They ordered a milk tea. Then the staff went back to talking to a group.

During this time, another staff member was standing next to the register. She would look at me and then not look at me. After a while I decided to approach her, and it turned out she was willing to serve me. I ordered. She went back to a corner of the room and started scrolling through her phone.

The couple who had walked in a few minutes before me had left. It was just me and the two other people who had walked in, and the conversation was still going on. I watched in amazement as the staff served the people who came in after me. I remarked to the staff that I had ordered first. She just looked at me.

I walked up to the register and watched in amazement as the group finished their conversation, ordered snacks, and the staff member who was on the phone call finished his phone call before the staff started making my drink.

The couple who had ordered after me are now finishing their snacks. I am still waiting for my drink. I am truly amazed by the story I am about to tell my friends.
