“Dad, I think I broke your lawn mower.”

So a little background for this story, we live in a middle-sized ranch house just on the outskirts of a nice county with about 200 houses. We have a small, thick forest right near the house that we had cleared out when we first bought the house. Nothing weird has ever happened here, just the occasional raccoon. I was about 12 at the time, and my mom and sister were out with their friends, while my dad was working on his two older cars in the garage. And of course, I have a lawn mower that stays outside where I keep the gas.

It was a cloudy, chilly fall day, and so I decided I wasn’t gonna put on a jacket. So I start mowing the lawn, and I reach the part where the thick forest is right next to the lawn. I didn’t think much of it, and it had been probably 7 or 8 years since we moved in, so I didn’t think of it as an issue. I was going along fine until I hit a rock. I walk over to the rock thinking it’ll be a small rock, but a surprisingly large boulder is in the way. The lawn mower won’t budge, I’m pretty sure I broke the mower. I’m frustrated because I broke the mower, but also because my dad won’t let me finish mowing the lawn, which was my chore for the week. I trudge over to the garage, and my dad is confused asking how I broke the mower.

I go on to tell him about the boulder, and he tells me it’s my fault, and I need to go move it. I’m frustrated and angry, but I know I messed up. I go back outside, and I’m thinking to myself, “I wish I had gotten that jacket.” Because the temperature dropped significantly, probably around 15 or 20 degrees in that short time. I go back to the rock, but I realize that it had probably been there for a very long time. I walk back over to the forest, and notice that all of the trees were dead, and looked like they had been struck by lightning. I thought it was weird, but I’m still pretty much a kid.

I walk through the forest, and notice that it has a path, but I never remembered making it. I was still stuck on the whole tree thing, and I walk a little bit more. The path got increasingly more difficult, but my curiosity had gotten the better of me. I go over the small hill the forest goes over, and I see a small clearing. I could see a small little wooden cabin in the middle, with smoke coming out of the top of it. At that point I realized that I wasn’t alone anymore. I felt someone or something was watching me, and this is where my instincts should have kicked in and I should’ve ran, but they didn’t.

I walked closer to the cabin, and I could see smoke coming out of it. I didn’t see a door anywhere, but I saw a small crack in the cabin. I walked over to the crack, and looked through it. The inside of the cabin was surprisingly clean, there were no cobwebs to be seen. There was a small fireplace, and a chair sitting next to it. Suddenly, I heard what I thought was my dad’s voice. I looked over, and of course it wasn’t him. It was a tall man with no eyes, just black holes where his eyes should be. He was very skinny, but his muscles bulged out of his skin. He was surprisingly tall, probably over 6 feet tall. I mean, this guy was huge, and it felt like he was staring right through me.

There were two other people in the room, my mom and my sister. They both looked brain dead, and were just staring off into space. I didn’t see my mom’s car anywhere, so I was confused as to how they were there. I was so terrified, I couldn’t move or anything. The tall man just kept staring at me, and he had his arms extended in a running position. I’m surprised I didn’t run right there and then, but I was too afraid to.

Suddenly, I heard a rustling in the bushes, and this is where I finally ran. I didn’t look back, and just ran back over the hill. At that point, I’m sure my instincts finally kicked in and I ran my ass off. I ran back through the house and into the garage. My dad asked me what was wrong, and I told him about the whole experience. He was very skeptical, and probably thought it was my imagination. I’m glad he did, because if he went out there he might not have come back.

He told me to just stay in my room, and that he would go check it out. He grabbed his baseball bat and went outside. He went out for probably around 20 minutes, and he never came back. So I decided to go check on him. I didn’t see him anywhere, and so I thought the worse. I decided to go into the forest, because I could’ve sworn that was where he went. I realized that they had probably taken him, and he never came back. The forest was completely deserted, until I saw the cabin. I didn’t remember seeing the cabin before, but my dad had cleared all of the forest.

The cabin was gone, and I didn’t see my dad. I was so worried, and I just ran back into the house. I called the police, and they came to my house. They asked me what had happened, and I told them about my experience. They were surprised, and so they took me away. They went out to search for my dad, but he was never found. I never went back to that house, and they tore it down and sold the property. It was a nice house, but I never went back.

I believe that house took my family, and I was never able to go back. So, to the people or whatever entities took my family, who I never saw, and who I think about every day, let’s not meet.
