I thought we were the happiest couple in the world. His smile lit up the world and his voice was music to my ears. His eyes were like the ocean itself and I couldn't stop staring at him when we were together.

I love him more than I love myself. We have been together for 8 years now and he still gave me butterflies whenever he walked into a room. He couldn't do a thing wrong in my eyes.

We had made plans to have dinner with friends. I was ready to roll by 7.30, but my hubby wasn't. I thought nothing of it, he is always running a little behind and I love him no matter what. He rushed out the door when our friends called to say they were already at the restaurant and we took off to meet them.

As we walked in, I saw a woman. She was staring at me and I felt my heart begin to pound. I couldn't leave her sight and my heart felt like it was ripping out. I felt like I'd been struck by a bolt of lightning. I tried to speak, to ask my hubby who she was, but my mouth wouldn't move. I couldn't take my eyes off her and I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.

I found myself walking towards her, my feet moving by themselves. My heart was pounding out of my chest and she didn't look away. She simply smiled and I felt like I'd been punched in the chest. I felt like I was drowning. My hubby grabbed my arm and called me back to him.

He tugged me towards him and I had to rip my eyes from the woman. I felt like I was being ripped in half. I felt like I'd just experienced a kink in reality. He shook my arm and said, "What's wrong, Jen? You okay?"

I stared at him, trying to process what had just happened. I felt like I'd just experienced a waking dream. I tried to speak, to tell him I'd just experienced something I couldn't explain, but my words caught in my throat. I stared at him and I felt like I was drowning.

His eyes were black.

"My eyes are green." He said. "Are you okay?"

I stared at his eyes and I felt like I'd been punched in the chest. I felt like my whole world had been turned upside down. I felt like I was seeing him for the first time. I stared at him, trying to make sense of my world. His eyes were black and I felt like I'd been punched in the chest. I tried to speak, to ask him what was going on, but my words caught in my throat.

"What's going on?" I asked. "Why are your eyes black?"

He stared at me. "My eyes are green, Jen. Are you okay?"

I stared at him and I felt like I was drowning. I felt like he was lying to me. I stared at his eyes and I felt like I'd just been punched in the chest. I felt like my whole world had been turned upside down. He shook my arm and I felt like I'd just been slapped. I stared at him and I felt like he was a stranger.

"I'm not okay." I said, trying to process what was happening. "Who is that woman?"

"What woman?" He asked.

"Behind me." I said, turning to look at her. "She's staring at me."

"There is no one behind you." He said. "What's going on Jen?"

I felt like I'd just been punched in the chest. I felt like he was lying to me. I stared at him and I felt like I was drowning.

I turned around and the woman was gone. I scanned the restaurant and I couldn't find her anywhere. I turned back to my hubby. My heart was pounding out of my chest and I felt like I was going to pass out. I felt like my whole world had been turned upside down and I couldn't do anything to stop it.

"What's going on?" I asked. "I feel like I'm going crazy."

"What do you mean?" My hubby asked. "You know who I am, don't you?"

"Yes." I said. "Of course. You're my husband."

"Good." He said. "And you know who our friends are, don't you?"

"Yes, of course." I said. "We've been friends with them since college."

"Good." He said. "You know where you are, don't you?"

"Yes." I said. "We're at the restaurant. I feel like I've just had some sort of vision."

"A vision?" He asked.

"A waking dream." I said. "I just felt...off. What happened to my life?"

"I don't know." He said. "Everything seems fine to me."

I stared at him and I felt like I was drowning. I stared at him and I felt like I'd just been punched in the chest. He smiled at me and I felt like I'd just been slapped. I stared at him and I felt like he was a stranger.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"No." I said. "I'm not okay. My whole life just came crashing down."

"What do you mean?" He asked.

"I don't know you." I said. "I don't love you, I don't care about you and I don't know who you are."

"Why not?" He asked.

"Because you're not him." I said. "You're not my husband."

"What?" He asked. "Of course I'm your husband."

"No." I said. "You're not."

"Why do you say that?" He asked.

"Because I know you." I said. "And you're not him."

I turned and ran out of the restaurant and into the night, pursued by the man who wasn't my husband.
