My (40F) daughter (18F) has left for college and my husband (43M) and I are splitting the expenses of the house 50/50 now. I pay for groceries and he pays for everything else.

Last week I bought cheese.

My daughter came home to visit and she was astonished I bought cheese. My daughter is severely lactose intolerant. I do not care. She no longer lives in the house. My husband is not lactose intolerant.

She saw me slice up the cheese to make a grilled cheese. She started yelling at me, telling me that she’s going to visit again and she needs access to food while she’s at the house. I told her I could not care any less. I haven’t made a grilled cheese sandwich since she was 8 because of the stupid intolerance. She has no right to stop me from eating what I want since she decided to move out.

What really set her off was when I used her letter in place of a plate. She had left all her letters on the kitchen counter and I thought there was no better way to celebrate my freedom from her stupid intolerance than to use her stupid letters from high school boyfriends.

She called me an asshole. AITA?
