People who say they are becoming more conservative with age are being wrongfully praised.

Hear me out here - my argument is that people who say they are becoming more conservative with age are in reality saying that they are becoming more selfish with age.

Let me give an example. I am a very socially conservative, moderate economically person who believes that we should stay in a capitalist system because it is the best we have, but we need to regulate it heavily and insure that we have a good social safety net to help bring people up. I am 40 as of the time of this post.

Don't get me wrong there is a small percentage of people who genuinely become more conservative over time as they see more of the world and real life experiences open their eyes to the truth of how the world works. I, like the title says, used to be a hardcore leftist. There is a certain aspect of how the world works that you are blind to when you go to school because you are sheltered from the real world. When you go out into the real world you end up seeing things that open your eyes to reality and make you realize that your assumptions about things are not entirely as correct as you thought they were.

However, there is another large percentage of people who are becoming more conservative over time not because they are becoming more realistic about how the world works and getting closer to the truth, but because life is becoming more comfortable for them.

Let me give you an example as proof. Chris Pratt is often cited as someone who used to be a Far Leftist when they were younger, but then as they got older they became more conservative.

So, someone who used to be a Far Leftist but is now a conservative should be a conservative who used to be a far leftist, right? Wrong. When Chris Pratt was a far leftist, they were protesting things in general like climate change, them lowering the minimum wage, the American healthcare system etc. Now that Chris Pratt is a conservative, do they protest for things like free universal healthcare? No. Making sure that everyone has a good social safety net; i.e. food stamps, welfare, unemployment insurance, assistance for single parents, etc. No. Making sure that climate change is taken seriously and that the government holds big corporations accountable for their emissions and their carbon footprint? No.

Then what does Chris Pratt protest for? They protest for things like Anti-Vax, "My Body My Choice" (by the way I am pro-choice and I believe that everyone should have complete bodily autonomy, but there is a certain irony in people who protest for "My Body My Choice" but also protest against vaccines and mask mandates), Anti-Socialism, Anti-Marxism, Anti-Communism, etc.

The reason why Chris Pratt is protesting against all these things is not because they have let go of their old naive ideals and they have come to realize that socialism and government regulation are worse for the people than capitalism and no government regulation, it is because they have come into a good amount of money and now they are against raising the minimum wage and having a higher tax rate because it will affect their pocket, even if it will help millions of people and make the country a better place.

This is what I mean by "They are becoming more selfish with age". Life is becoming more comfortable for them and now they care more about insuring that they keep their wealth and privilege than they care about the welfare of the average person.

The world is messed up right now, and we need to do everything we can to fix it. If we have millionaires and billionaires out there that are protesting against raising the minimum wage because it will make their lives a little less comfortable, then we are never going to be able to make the world a better place.
