You absolutely should not go for your dreams, you should do the opposite: go for the nightmares

Let's do a little thought experiment: if you were to have a dream, if your dreams were to come true in the most literal sense of the word, if the dreams of anyone in this world were to come true, they could potentially lead to the destruction of entire galaxies.

In this way, all dreams are potentially terrible, and if you were to apply a utilitarian approach to this idea, you could definitely argue that the idea of dreams is a bad idea. In this way, one could argue that most of what you want to be true, could potentially end in a worse reality than what already exists in the real world. By this reasoning you can't trust your dreams, and you certainly can't think that "going for your dreams" is the best approach to a better future.

But what about nightmares, can we trust nightmares? By their very definition, nightmares are nightmares because we understand them to be frightening and uncomfortable. What I'd like to argue is that nightmares, for the most part, are not potentially dangerous. Sure, the prospect of being dead can be a very scary one, but the reality of being dead doesn't make the world a worse place, it simply is the absence of a life in this case. In this way, your nightmares, by their very nature seem to be safe.

What I'd like to argue in this post is that you should go for your nightmares. Go for what scares you, but only because you want to get rid of that fear, and only because you know in your heart that going for your nightmares could potentially lead to a better life for you, and for everyone else in the world. You see, nightmares are not inherently bad, but the fact that your nightmares exist is. Nightmares exist because of some sort of trauma that didn't really heal the way we think it did. Traumas often times are the result of unhealthy relationships, bad parenting, or a life that is not well lived.

So, in this way nightmares are the symptoms of a disease that almost everyone has. This is why I think it's so important to get a proper education, to get a good therapy, and to have a healthy lifestyle. And this is why it's so important that we go for our nightmares. There are so many unwritten rules in the world, and there are so many unhealthy norms that are deeply ingrained in our culture.

This is why I believe that we need to go for the things that scare us. We need to go for what we know is wrong, we need to question everything, we need to be the people that are not afraid of anything, because we know that on the other side of our greatest fears we can become the people we need to be to change this world for the better.

My greatest hope is that we can become a better world, a world that is better for everyone, and I think that the only way we can get there is by going for the things that scare us. So, don't go for your dreams, go for your nightmares instead. That's where all the real growth is. That's where the real challenge is.

And that's where all the rewards are.
