What would you do if you were wrongly convicted of shoplifting and faced hefty fines and possible jail time?

So here is my story, I’ve never been in trouble before, no issues whatsoever. I went to the local supermarket on Saturday to pick up some meat for tonight’s dinner. <br><br>I walk into the store, and after I do so I stop and check my phone for the weekly ad so I make sure I’m not missing anything. <br><br>Then I go straight for the meat, I do my shopping and then I go to the checkout. When I get to the checkout, I realize I forgot my cash so I tell the cashier I’m going to run to the car and get it. <br><br>I run out the door, and I get to my car and I realize I locked my keys inside of it. So I’m fucked. Now it’s getting dark and I have no way to get in my car. <br><br>Now I go inside the store and I explain my situation to the employees working there. They tell me to call my brother to come and give me his keys so I can get in my car. <br><br>I call my brother and he agreed. I don’t tell the employees that my brother is coming. As I’m waiting I go to the vending machine in the front of the store which is right outside the entrance so I can buy a drink. <br><br>I buy my drink and then I go to the side of the store and wait for my brother to give me his keys. Now mind you that when I went to the vending machine I went with the cart AS IT HAD ALL MY GROCERIES. <br><br>Now my brother pulls up and gives me the keys. Then I get in my car and I unlock it and get my keys. <br><br>Then I go back into the store and I finish my shopping. After I get done shopping, I go to the checkout and pay and then I go on my merry way. <br><br>Now fast forward 5 days, and I get a call from the supermarket saying I owe them 800$ and if I don’t pay I will be served papers to appear in court. <br><br>Now I’m fucked. I ask them what the hell is going on, I didn’t steal anything???? They tell me that the cameras picked me up with a full cart leaving the premises. <br><br>I explain my whole story to them and they tell me they’ll look into it and they’ll call me back. <br><br>They called me back and told me they’re dropping the charges. <br><br>But what if they didn’t drop the charges? Like I was so nervous and not thinking straight at all, I didn’t even think about recording anything???? I just went about my day like normal. <br><br>I would’ve been fucked if they didn’t drop the charges. I would’ve had to pay 800$ and I might’ve even went to jail but I didn’t do anything wrong. <br><br>So the title of the post is what would you do if you were wrongly convicted of shoplifting and faced hefty fines and possible jail time? And no I’m not a stupid mf I understand how to read the title and I know I’m not charged but if I was I would’ve been fucked. <br><br>Edit: wow I appreciate all the feedback and advice and helpful comments.
