I can't understand why the current recession is like this. Why recessions seem to be lasting longer.

In the past, recession is like a boom-and-bust cycle. With a sharp decrease in GDP, followed by a sharp increase, and back to a steady growth.<br><br>Now, it seems that recession is like this. A sharp decrease in GDP, but followed by a slow growing. And then immediately a recession.<br><br>For example, the 2008 recession. In 2009, GDP fell by around 5.1%. Then it recovered, but then in 2020 it fell again. And in 2023 it's going to fall again.<br><br>I don't really understand why the economy can't go back to a steady growth path. With a steady growth rate of 2% or 3% or something like that.<br><br>Why is this?
