I've been a lurker here for a while, but recently I wrote this in r/TrueOffMyChest and was met with a lot of agreement and disagreement, so I'm here to properly change my view.

//-------------

I can't explain why, but deep down, I always felt that there was supposed to be some sort of revolution in 2020. The world was in shambles, and we needed a large change.

But now that 2020 is over and nothing came of it, I think I realized why that feeling disappeared. I think that the rise of the internet has blocked any chance of a revolution in our country.

Think about how much of the world we get from the internet. Without the internet, you rely on local news sources for your news, and people for your social interactions. You would be able to tell how much unhappiness is in a community, and you would know from your local news station what issues are affecting people all over the country, which would create a sense of unity.

Now, with the internet, we have social media, where people only see what others like them want to be seen, and global news sources, that only tell us about global problems. We don't even know what's going on in the street over from our houses anymore.

The internet is the greatest tool we could have used for revolution. If we used it to communicate and unite, then we could overthrow the government. But we don't. It's just a tool for echo chambers and dopamine.

I know that this is a chaotic post and barely coherent, but I can't put this feeling into words properly.

The internet has blocked any chance of revolution.

//-------------

So change my view, please! I know this is a pretty basic thread, but I'm hopeful that it will bring interesting discussion.
